2017 saw the explosion of anime’s popularity in the west, as it has been for the last couple of years. A lot of that attention, however, was focused on two particular franchises: A Silent Voice, which was released this year, and Your Name, whose popularity largely carried over into most of 2017.
To many, both of these critically acclaimed movies represent the best of what anime has to offer, and I would be inclined to agree. Both Makoto Shinkai’s newest masterpiece and KyoAni’s surprise hit both represent everything that anime can and should be. But I’m curious, which one do you think is better? Please leave your response and your reason in the comments. Thanks for reading and bye for now, Friendos!
I still haven’t seen either but just on the plots (as I understand them) I am more inclined to find A Silent Voice than Your Name to watch first. I actually saw a DVD of Your Name and passed on it (mostly because it was $30 at the time and for a single movie I haven’t seen that is more than I am willing to pay). Still keeping an eye out to see if I can find A Silent Voice.

I hope you do, cause both are worth watching. I did find A Silent Voice to be a bit more relatable, though.

Unfair to make me choose. Totally unfair.
But I guess I prefer Koe no Katachi a little more than Kimi no Nawa…..

It is kind of unfair, because both are fantastic. I was more curious on people’s reason for going one way or the other.
