Opening of the Week: Peace Sign by Kenshi Yonezu(My Hero Academia OP 2)

Aside from being one of the best shonen to come out in a while, My Hero Academia has also created a great number of OPs, including the one we’re going to talk about today: Peace Sign. My personal favorite of the three, Peace Sign has a fairly standard J-Rock vibe that goes pretty hard. Once again, welcome to Opening of the Week.

As evidenced by a large number of high-quality memes, fans are passionate about My Hero Academia’s opening songs, especially peace sign. It even got popular enough to make it to number one on the Japanese Billboard Music charts, which speaks to its influence on even average listeners.

The music of the song is not anything special. It’s instrumentation is arranged well enough, and the guitar was actually pretty good. As mentioned before, it is your typical J-Rock fair with the vocals of Japanese singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu behind the mic.

Yonezu has had a pretty diverse musical history, originally starting out working on Vocaloid production playing the guitar. In 2012, Yonezu stopped working in Vocaloid to pursue his own musical career, where he has found a lot of success.

Overall, it is a really fun song. Not exactly anything special, but definitely worthy repeated Jam sessions.
