Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

It has been a while since I’ve done an anime related challenge of any kind, it just so happened that as I was scrolling through my wordpress feed the other day I happened to see the lovely Keiko doing an FMA challenge that looked interesting. So, here I am.

1 – FMA or FMAB

The debate on which of the two Fullmetal Alchemist iterations is one that has been going on for a long time, but also one that I have never really had much interest in taking part in, largely because I think there are strong points to both. However, my own personal feelings on the matter is that Brotherhood is a stronger adaptation, for a two main reasons.

The first is that while the original FMA definitely executes better on its opening episodes, the overall story of Brotherhood feels a lot stronger. The pacing is solid throughout, and even though it takes a bit longer, most of the characters in Brotherhood are fleshed out. Not to mention that Brotherhood’s ending is actually good.

The second reason is the diversity in the story that comes with Brotherhood. The remakes shows a lot more of the world of Fullmetal Alchemist, and includes a lot more of the politics of Amestria, as well getting to learn about Xing, which practices a different form of Alchemy than Amestria does.

Again, this isn’t to say I think the original is bad, it just has a few too many things that are worse than FMAB for me to say that it is the better version.
