Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to click on this article. I am happy to announce my first ever guest post. Many thanks to RJ Boulton of Unknown Games for taking the time to write this article for The Aniwriter. Today, he’ll be talking about the seven best anime-related video games of 2018. With that being said, here is the article.

7: Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britania

I thought the anime series was amazing, the story and how they introduced each character in the programme was excellent! The game – not so much, I did enjoy parts of the game because of how much of a fan I was of the series. This game is for the big fans of the series and I do like the fact you have played through the story to unlock different characters. I always enjoy that game mechanic, the game does miss some main story out of the game which was disappointing. The graphics were a bit outdated if you’re a big fan of the series though I do recommend this game I do hope they make a second one and work out the bad areas of the game.

6: Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise

Fist of the North Star, when it was announced, was the most anticipated anime game of 2018 but it ended up not being the best game. It was good, just not as good as it could have been. It was messy, and it started off very slow but when it got going it started to get a lot better with a good combat system and some great finishing moves, but it does get repetitive. What puts this game low on the list is that if you’re a big fan of the Yakuza series this would be a game for you but if you didn’t enjoy the games, I doubt you would like it.

5: Naruto to Boruto Shinobi Striker

I’m going to try my hardest not to be biased because Naruto is my favorite anime ever. I was excited about this game, but I was slightly disappointed in it. To be honest, the game looks terrific, the graphics are great, it’s a beautiful game and the idea of an online game where you fight other teams as different ninja then getting the chance to make your own character with skills from characters from the show is excellent, but the loot system doesn’t work. I would never think that a loot system could work in a Naruto game, also the combat system is minimal there are not many things you can do. It’s not deep enough, the combat just needs more depth to it and it is just messy. There’s room for improvement for the next game, maybe focusing more on a single player campaign, I hope.

4: Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet

Although I was expecting a bit more from this game, I still enjoyed it. I can see why people would not enjoy the game due to the story being quite small at 25 hours. Although it does have a small range of different side quests like finding treasure and taking out large enemies, it does get slightly tedious meaning even fans like me get a little bored of the side quests. The online does give a bit more to the game but does not give enough to do. I’m not saying this is a bad game, there just could have been a bit more to it. Especially for the cutscene cinematics which are not very enjoyable. This isn’t a bad game for a fan of the series, and it is quite enjoyable. However, for newbies, it is not the best. It requires some maintenance, so maybe if they make a second one it could be great.

3: My Hero One’s Justice

With our fifth entry, we’re going to start with the bad aspects of the game. One of the bad things about this game is that you can’t get it in English voices which for me is not good. For some, it might not matter, but for me it is terrible. You have to be a fan of the series to understand what’s going on in the game, and that’s good for fans but not for newbies who don’t know the story. This game is a 3D open arena game with a good choice of characters with each having its own kind of feel where you need to use different strategies to win the fight and that keeps you playing and learning different ways of winning. They also introduce ‘what if’ which gives you a chance to take story modes away from the canon giving fans of the series excellent incentive to play this game. This game is really for the fans but if you’re not and haven’t watched the series then you should try the anime out, and if you like it carry on watching it, then buy this game because it is enjoyable.

2: Attack on Titan 2

Attack on Titan 2 is a good game. It makes you feel like you’re fighting Titans, and with the Titans being as creepy as they are in the anime, it gives a real feel of terror when you’re fighting. The visuals are great, and the movement and combat have a fantastic feel to them and when you finish off a Titan it is satisfying. However, there’s one bit, and it did annoy me personally, and it was the story. It takes a while to get moving which for me makes me lose interest, but the gameplay does make up for it.

1: Dragon Ball Fighter Z

I saved the best for last. I do think this is one of the best recently released anime games. I think the story is good, it’s not amazing, there are only 12 hours of story, but it’s good for fans. I think if you have never watched Dragon Ball before this is an excellent place to start. If you play this game It is to get into the dragon ball series from it. After you finish the story, there is quite a smart arcade mode where you will fight themed teams of enemies. Then, depending on the score you get and how good you are, you can go for a harder difficulty setting. The online mode works really well. I would enjoy a bigger roster and even a larger story, but that’s just me being picky and a long-time fan of Dragon Ball.
