Aniwriter Update #5: Hiatus Accomplishments and Future Plans

Welcome, weebs and authors alike, to another update.

It’s been about two weeks now since I’ve gone on hiatus, and it has been great. I’ve had a lot more time to relax since taking a break, and it’s allowed me to focus more on some of the things that I’ve wanted to do. So, I thought I would use this post as a way to catch you all up on what exactly I’ve been doing.

Playing Dragon Quest 9: Sentinels of the Starry Sky

Dragon Quest is one of those games that I started a while ago and just never really got around to finishing. As such, I started a whole new play through, and it’s been going relatively well. Honestly, I’m not sure whether it’s the pathing I took around the map or not, but the enemies after a certain point in the game get pretty ridiculous. Even having four characters in my party doesn’t protect me from just getting randomly crit by an enemy just walking around.

Still, it is a super fun game, and I can’t wait to finally finish it.

Watching Re:Creators

Do you ever get that feeling that a show was just made specifically for you, or at the very least it speaks to a certain idea that you can understand because you know people who are in somewhat similar situations? Yeah, that was me with Re:Creators, which has become one my favorite shows that I’ve watch this year.

Admittedly, sometime around episode four, I was ready to drop the show entirely. The first episode was fantastic, but episode two, three, and the first 20 minutes of episode four felt a bit lacking. Then, when the reveal at the end of episode four happened, which I won’t spoil, the show takes not a fairly drastic turn.

I’ve probably said it one too many times already, but Re:Creators soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal, and Hiroyuki Sawano deserves a lot of credit for putting together a great collection of very fitting musical pieces for the show. Overall, it was fantastic.

Future Endeavors: Made in Abyss

Ever since I got ahold of my mom’s Amazon Prime account, I’ve pretty much been going through there catalog of exclusives that I’ve been wanting to watch. I started with “The Great Passage” not to long ago, then of course “Re:Creators,” and now I plan on watching Made in Abyss, which I am super excited about. The amount of good things that I’ve heard about this show honestly makes me wonder why it didn’t beat out My Hero Academia at the anime awards. (JK I know exactly why My Hero Academia won). Definitely excited to start it soon though.

Also, before I end this post, I wanted to inform you that I will more than likely be on hiatus for about another two weeks or so, and I plan on spending my last week working on posts so I can come back better than ever! Anyway, I will see you all soon.

The Aniwriter Update #3: Another Sakuga City Article and My Status on School

Welcome, weebs and authors alike, to another update.

I hope you all have had a wonderful two weeks since the last time I gave you an update, but now it is time again to let you know what exactly is going on with me, The Aniwriter, and life in general.

March Comes in Like a Lion on Sakuga City

In case you all missed it, I wrote yet another article for Sakuga City. This time I talked about March Comes in Like a Lion and how Kyoko is kind of an awful person. And when I say kind of I mean most definitely an awful person. I also wrote a review of No Game No Life Zero on Sakuga City as well, so you should check that out too.

How School is Affecting Content

As I predicted before, school right now isn’t really going to have to big of an impact on my writing flow. That may change later on in the year when my English class becomes a bit more intense, but for now, everything is probably going to stay just about the same. My goal is to have at least three posts out a week and potentially an additionally post out on my political blog if I can manage it.

Continuing the Conversation on Slice of Life

A few days ago I posted an article talking about and defending the genre of slice of life and its characterization as boring. In that article, I said there is going to be a second part where I talk about the problem of defining Slice of Life as a genre. I just wanted to inform you that the second part of that piece will still be coming out next week, but more than likely a bit later in the week, probably on Friday or something.

Extending a Collab Invitation

I forgot to mention in my This Week in Anime post yesterday that I was recently tagged in an awesome new collaboration tag made by Karandi and Raistlin. When I read that it was supposed to be a collaboration, I was honestly not sure who I should ask. So, I thought I would extend a bit of an invitation here. If anyone wants to do this tag with me, let me know. It would be super fun, I think.

Blog Update: Opening of the Week, Possible Name Change, and More…

Welcome, friends

Its been a little bit since I’ve done one of these updates, and there are a few things regarding the blog that I really wanted to address, so lets get started.

First, I want to talk about a series I do on my blog called Opening of the Week. I’m sure if you’ve been reading my blog for an extended period of time then you’ve probably at least seen a preview of one an Opening of the Week post before. I originally started writing it because I wanted to write about anime openings, but now, having gone through a ton of different openings, I do not feel as inspired to write them. Which is why, at least for the time being, I am going to retire the series. I might bring it back occasionally when I see an opening I really like, but other than that it will remain off of the blog.

Second, in August of last year, this blog had a completely different name. Originally titled That Guy Who Writes, I felt the name was too generic and I should change it. However, even after changing it again to its current name, I still feel like the blog is lacking a little personal flare. Just for the record though, if I do decide on a different name, I will give another update a few days before I do it, as I did the last time I changed my name. There is nothing set in stone yet, but if I do think of something else, then the name will likely be changed.

Lastly, I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you. I will be coming up on a year soon for this blog and it has definitely been a fun ride. Getting to talk to fellow bloggers, be apart of community projects, like book Arthifis started and that I got to contribute to, and just in general have a good time writing. It is a little weird to think there are people who actually enjoy reading the things I write, but maybe I need to stop thinking like that.

Keep being awesome, friends.

Blog Update: 3-17-18 and 200 Post Celebration!

Hey Anifriends!

Its time again for another blog update, because I have a lot that I need to talk to you guys about.

First, I wanted to talk a little about why content has been a little inconsistent as of late, to say the least. A lot of my time recently has just been consumed with school, and that has meant that I have a lot less time to work on posts. Most of it, though, has to do with the fact that it seems like Depression is taking over my life as of late. There have been a lot of contributing factors. One is, again the amount of school work, and also I have had a couple of close friends leave my life for the time being. One has joined the army, which means I likely won’t get to see this person for a while, and the other has just seemed to stop talking to me. On top of just feeling not great about myself, it has culminated into a sort of stagnation, and at times being in a dark place that feels really hard to get out of.

Second, and it relates to the first point, because of the inconsistency in content, and because I don’t feel great about my quality right now, I will no longer be promoting my Patreon. Part of having a Patreon is the expectation that quality content will be delivered, and because I don’t feel like I am in a place to do that, I will stop putting it at the bottom of my post. When I get to a place where I feel like I deserve Patreon pledges, then I will start asking for them, but otherwise, it will remain empty. I do have a Kofi if you would like to donate individually, but that is all for the time being.

It is also been 200 posts since I started my blog. Since I have put out 200 posts into the world, I thought about doing something special. Many of you know my series Opening of the Week, where I talk about a certain anime opening of my choosing. Well, this time, I want you guys to choose. In the comments section of this post, write down an opening you would want me to cover. I will pick one randomly, and then cover it next week. The cutoff is Monday, so be sure to comment soon.

Thank for reading and bye for now, Friendos!

I’m Going to Knoxville Anime Day

Hey Friendos!

Since I am doing so for my high school newspaper, I’ll be at Knoxville Anime Day covering all the excitement that happens. I’m not sure how many of my readers actually live in Knoxville, but if any of you happen to also live in Knoxville and see me there, which is likely because its a fairly small event, then feel free to say high. If I’m in the middle of talking to someone else, though, that means I’m probably interviewing someone for the article I’m writing, so that might be a thing.

If you are looking for information on the event, you can find it here. It’s mostly a giant dealer’s room

Anyway, hope to see some of you there.

Thanks for reading and bye for now, friendos!

I’m Lovely? Who Knew – One Lovely Blog Award

Hey, Friendos!

So, apparently, I am lovely and deserve to be nominated for another award. Thank you to Moyatori for the nomination, and congratulations on getting nominated yourself.

Anyway, here are the rules:

One Lovely Blog Award Rules:
1) Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
2) Add the One Lovely Blog Award to your post
3) Share 7 things about yourself
4) Pass this on to as many people as you like (max 15)

6) Inform your nominees

One Lovely Blog Award

Seven things about me:

1. The first time I went snowboarding, I ended up hitting someone at the bottom of the hill and flipping them on top of me. The guy weighed a lot more than me at the time so it hurt quite a bit.

2. The first anime I ever watched was Bakugan Battle Brawlers. I had, and still have, all of the Bakugan that I got when I was a kid.

3. Smite is a game that I play a whole lot of. Not a huge fan of Mobas, but Smite is really fun. Some of my favorite Smite gods: Ah Muzen Cab, Cernunnos, Chaac, Hachiman.

4. Taco Bell is slowly becoming a staple food in my diet, and it is not ok.

5. When I am not blogging or watching anime, I usually make an attempt to walk around outside and inspire some new writing. It works a lot more than you would think.

6. 100% prefer cold to hot.

7. Halloween is my favorite holiday because I get to eat a ton of candy and not feel bad about myself.

Now, onto the nominations:

Visual Joint

Couch Crusin’

When Sirius Writes

Check out all of these lovely people if you can.

Thanks for reading and bye for now, Friendos!

Aniwriter Update: 1-6-18

What up, Anifriends?

Thought it was time for a blog update since a few things have happened since the last time I did one of these.

First, as you might have noticed, the site address has changed. I decided to make the initial investment and upgrade my WordPress plan to premium so I can do a little more with it than I normally would be able to normally. I’m really digging the new theme I decided to install for it.

This also means that, as you might have noticed, that I turned on WordPress ads. I tried to put them in places that weren’t annoying and that get in the way of reading. This isn’t actually going to change any of the content, I just thought making a couple of dollars was better than making nothing.

Second, Since I’m going back to school in a few days the blog might be a little light on content in the near future, at least until I adjust to my new workload(I’m taking AP U.S. History and Precalculus. Fun….). Hopefully, though, this period doesn’t last too long, and in fact, History might inspire some good poems.

That’s all for now. I hope anyone else going back to school has a good start to their semester/has already had a good start to their semester.

Love you all, Thanks for reading and bye for now, Friendos!
