#10: Least Favorite Anime Cliche

My least favorite cliche is one that I have honestly hated for a while now, and I am sure that most of those reading this are probably familiar with it as well. It is the cliche where the main character of an ecchi or ecchi adjacent show walks in on one of the girls naked, at which point the girl overreacts in complete disproportion to what the situation might entail. I think it mainly bugs me not because of how often its used, but how often its used poorly. It has become such a lazy trope that most of the time it is not even funny.

#9: Favorite Anime Cliche

Ok, so I actually have a tie for this one. One of my favorite cliches is what has been dubbed by the internet as the “Shaft Head Tilt.” It is simultaneously the most horrifying and intimidating motions that an anime character can do. Most of all, it also just looks painful. My other favorite cliche is the one I like to call the “always 10 steps ahead main character.” It is the archetype most embodied by characters like Light Yagami, who are so smart that they are always winning even when they are seemingly losing.
