Opening of the Week: ft. by Funkist(Fairytail OP 3)

If Fairytail has anything going for it, it’s the plethora of fun and interesting OPs. There are many that I could have chosen, and many I will likely choose in the future for another, but the one I’ve chosen today is one that I’ve held as one of my favorites of all time for a while. ft. by Funkist is great not only for its fast pace but an extremely talented lead vocalist.

The music for this opening, as mentioned before is done by Funkist, A Japanese rock band that was formed in 2001 under the label POWERPLAY. If you are a fan of Fairytail, you may recognize that Funkist also performed the show’s first and arguably most memorable opening song “Snow Fairy.”

Whereas Snow Fairy was carried mainly by its flute melody, ft. ops for a faster pace and much more prominent guitars and drums. Their signature flute is still there, but it takes more of a backseat this time around.

The song wouldn’t be what it is though without the main vocals of the band from Saigo Someya. The song doesn’t have much of a vocal range, but that may actually work to Someya’s advantage, as he sounds a lot more comfortable in his lower register.

The song has become a personal favorite opening of mine, as are many of the Fairytail openings. Its fast pace, fun, and always gets you headbanging, which can be said for the series itself, except for the headbanging part.

What do you guys think? Love it? Hate it? Somewhere in between? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading, Friendos!
