Opening of the Week: Sorairo Days by Shoko Nakagawa(Gurren Lagann OP)

It feels to me like I don’t revisit a lot of older anime for this series, so I wanted to change that. The early and mid 2000’s have a lot in the way of good openings, and Gurren Lagann proves that easily. For the Opening of the Week: Sorairo Days by Shoko Nakagawa.

One of the best ways to set the tone for a show is to create an opening that reflects the tone your going for. A good opening might not be essential in creating a good show, but it can make a difference in how a show is rated by viewers, and certainly Sorairo Days is one of the things fans remember about Gurren Lagann.

One of the best things about Sorairo Days is, of course, it’s lead vocalist Shoko Nakagawa. Her deeper than average voice plays well against the openings rock instrumentation. As the song goes on, the music gets progressively more hopeful, portraying the shows main themes about not giving up in the face of adversity.

Sorairo Days is definitely one of the best compliments to an anime that’s I’ve ever heard, and should be remembered for how it is.
