Finally Employed (and Figuring Stuff Out)

Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

It has been a minute since my last update (about five months or so), and as such, it seemed like a good a time as any to organize what has been going on with me in an easily digestible format.

My New (Old) Job

It never really occurred just how depressing unemployed life can be. Most days are spent desperately combing through job listings of any place that looks like it will actually hire. minutes, hours, spent checking my email inbox and looking down at my phone waiting for responses back. Even the ones that do answer back are positions only applied for because it felt like something to do and not one that would actually be good. Needless to say, finding a job has not been easy.

At least, that is what I had typed out originally when writing this post. However, after a week or so of consideration, I decided to go back to my old job after texting with my former manager. While it may not be exactly where I expected to be at this point, it will at least give me time to re-evaluate what it is I should do going forward.

I’m Finally Happy?

Finally is a bit dramatic, perhaps, but the sentiment is still applicable. As much as I enjoyed my time in higher education, and for as much as being unemployed for months on end was not particularly fun, there is also a bit of hesitance on my end to go back. At least for the last couple of years, college felt more like a way to escape entering the real world as much as a did a vehicle for self-improvement. As much as these should feel contradictory, I also cannot help but feel like both are true.

This contradiction leaves me unsure of what to do next. On the one hand, Academic spaces have always felt pretty comfortable, and spending days holed up in a library doing research does not sound that bad. At the same time, I worry about getting bored and my motivation fizzling out. I’ve also been grappling with the idea that progress is not linear, and that personal journeys are not always going to move in a straight line, so I guess we will have to see.

Topics Coming Up

Been finding a lot of fun manga recently. On top of that, there is also some older stuff that I am just about done with and will be doing a formal post on when through.

  • Blood on the Tracks (Continued)
  • Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (possibly)
  • Last Gender – When We Are Nameless
  • Revolutionary Girl Utena
  • Oshi no Ko
  • Yu-Gi-Oh 5D’s (if I’m feeling silly)

As usually, I reserve the right to ignore some of this or cover something else that peaks my interest if it happens to come up.

Animated Observations Update #5

Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

First off, thank you all for continually putting up with my inability to be in any way consistent with content whatsoever. I have been trying my hardest but a lot of the time its just hard with the amount of stuff I have to do. Anyway, here is the update:

College Classes are a Lot of Work

The main reason I’ve been so unable to keep writing things consistently is because, well, the amount of stuff I have to do for school really will not let me. It has been a real pain, and considering I am still in general education classes right now, it probably won’t get any better. I have been having to choose between writing and having a social life any time I am free, but the decision is always hard. I also have a lot of things that are due coming up, like a speech I have to give next week, and I paper the week after, so it is safe to say that the blog will still be fairly inactive for a bit longer. However…

The Animanga Festival

One thing I will be doing in October is participating in The Animanga Festival. I’ll leave a link to Auri’s original post so you can read about it, but a short description. Basically, it’s a blogger/YouTuber inspired festival in which creators can participate in a wide variety of games/activities/events/prompts. If it’s sounds like something interesting, more information is available in that original post.

Something Secret in the Works

I was recently invited to review a certain film that, from the small amount of background information I have gathered, looks to be pretty interesting. It is something different, somewhat anime adjacent but operating in a completely different lane. I will hopefully have that out around the second week of October, but until then stay tuned for more.

OWLS

Lastly, I just wanted to give the squad over at OWLS a big shoutout. They are a super cool group of bloggers and YouTubers that yours truly just so happens to be a part of. Each of us works our hardest using monthly prompts to spread awareness and compassion for people of all different groups. If you are following me and somehow are not following them, please give them a follow on socials and WordPress, as well as checking out the various members, who are all cool af.

Animated Observations Update #3

Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

First off, I want to just say once again thank you to everyone who reads my work here one Animated Observations. I started this blog as a way to escape the real world and deal with my depression in a more manageable way. Since then, I’ve gone through a few name changes, but I have also managed to deal with a lot of my problems from when I started. I am two years in and approaching almost 300 followers, which is crazy to think about. Of course, I probably would be writing stuff even if I did not have an audience, but its always nice to have people willing to levy criticism. So, again, thank you all. With that said though, here is everything I have to update you all on this month.

Solidly Liquid (Sorry, I need the self promo)

I know I have mentioned it a lot already, but If you have not yet, you should check out my new writing blog, Solidly liquid, and follow the blog on social media. It would be a big help in getting my writing out there. I post at least once a week. Right now, I have been focusing mainly on poetry, but I hope to add some other stuff there in the future.

Seasonal Anime and Doing My Own Thing

I have had a lot of problems with balancing both relevant topics and my own creative endeavors, but as of now I am just gonna drop the balancing act and focus on the things I want to write about. Tbh, I was never really that good at it anyway.

All this really means at this point is that any of the seasonal first impressions and episode reactions will just get replaced by other things. Apologies to those who were looking for more seasonal content to consume, It’s just not what I enjoy writing about. I will still probably keep up on some of the seasonal shows, just will not be writing about them anymore.

My New Hobbie: SMASHing

Ok, bad joke. But yeah, I’ve been playing/watching a lot of competitive smash, and I have really been enjoying it. Can’t say I am particularly good, but am definitely learning a lot the more I play. I have also started going to weeklies in my area, and I also got to try commentating, which was a lot of fun.

Admittedly, since I am a pretty emotional personal, losing hits pretty hard, but overall its been a great experience and the people at my weeklies are cool for the most part.

School and Overall Content

College is something I have found, even doing it part time, can take away a lot of your ability to do what you want, which is why doing it full time is probably going to require most of my attention. That being said, it probably means that overall content on this blog is going to be a lot lower. Of course, I would still like to try and be as consistent as possible, so I am going to set myself to a goal of at least one post a week, even when college gets busy.

I start on the 21st of next month, so I still have a bit of time, but I felt it would be better to let you all know now.

What anime have you all been enjoying lately? Let me know in the comments below.

Aniwriter Update #13: Kingdom Hearts and School

Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

Another two weeks have gone by and, well, even with school back in session and still being busy at work, not a lot has actually happened over the past two weeks, especially not for the blog. But, let us get into what has happened anyway.

Kingdom Hearts 3

If you have checked any social media platform recently, you will know that the Kingdom Hearts 3 craze is in full effect, so much so that I wrote a joke article about it earlier this week, and I have not been an exception to that rule. I got my copy at a prerelease the day before it came out, and Its been consuming most of my free time. Its been really enjoyable, and the writing, for as weird and complicated of a series as Kingdom Hearts is, has actually been pretty good, especially considering the number of loose ends the series has had to tie up. Definitely a satisfying game.

A Quick Note for the Coming Year

I don’t know if I have ever actually explicitly said this before, but as of right now I am taking classes at my local community college while also working part-time. Starting in the fall of this year I will be moving up to University so that I can finally start on getting my degree, which at this point is probably going to be English, although that could change. It’s hard to say how busy I am going to be when I finally get there, and I honestly don’t know how much that will affect my ability to post. This won’t be for a while now, but just something I thought was worth mentioning.
