30 Day FMA Challenge: Day 25

Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

It is day twenty-five of the 30 Day FMA Challenge

25. Your OTP

If you saw my post at my favorite moment in the show, then this should come at no surprise. Ed and Winry are two characters who, from the beginning, have a lot of chemistry. The two of them grew up together, sharing in Ed’s pain when his mother passed and when he and Al failed to bring her back. Of course, Winry has always cared for him, but it was not until the major events of the show began to unfold that there feelings became more clear. As the show goes on, the two of them more and more begin to realize just how far their caring for one another goes. Overall, my favorite romantic dynamic in the show.

30 Day FMA Challenge: Day 23

Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

It is day twenty-three of the 30 Day FMA Challenge.

23. Funniest Moment

This one was a bit harder since there are so many great comedic moments in the show, but ultimately I decided on the the scene where Ed is in Winry’s room eating a sandwich from FMAB. The only starts out hilarious but then slowly escalates as everyone hears Winry’s scream and then rushes up to see whats going on, starts pulling out guns and then get confused. Meanwhile, all of this happened because Ed just wanted to eat his sandwich alone. I would explain more, but for this one I would just say watch the scene above and enjoy it.

30 Day FMA Challenge: Day 21

It is day twenty-one of the 30 Day FMA Challenge

21. Favorite Moment

To piggy back after what I talked about yesterday, my favorite moment overall in the show is the scene where Ed asks Winry to marry him.

This was an interesting scene for me, for a number of reasons. The first is that unlike most romantic relationships in anime, Ed and Winry’s relationship is allowed to progress to this point. Many other action/adventure shows in a similar vein often restrict the relationships to purely platonic ones, despite heavy implications that the main characters will get together. It is even less common that anime portrays romantic life beyond a high school romance, which makes this scene much more unique.

Then, of course, there is the relationship itself, which is absolutely heartwarming. It was pretty obvious even from early on in the show that Ed had feelings for Winry, and later on in the show Winry realizes the same about Ed. Watching the two of them deal with these feelings in a way that does not feel forced or compelled in anyway is genuinely wonderful, and provides a great thread in addition to the many other present in FMA

It is a moment with a lot of buildup and importance behind it, and probably one of the moments I appreciate most in all of the anime I have watched.

30 Day FMA Challenge: Day 7

Welcome, weebs, to Animated Observations

It is day seven of the 30 Day FMA Challenge.

7. Favorite Female Non-Alchemist

My favorite female non-alchemist from FMA is easily Winry Rockbell.

Some have made the argument that Winry is more like a typical shonen side character, just there to be an attractive “romantic” interest for the main character with little substance, and for some of FMA I can certainly understand that perspective. However, I think there are plenty of things that differentiate and humanize her for than other female characters in similar situations.

For example, for the little screen time that Winry gets, she has a lot of great moments that span the entire series, such as the episode where she confronts scar about the death of her parents, or when she helps give birth in Rush Valley, both of which help her realize important things about herself.

Another thing that makes her far more interesting is that FMA is an anime, at least in the Brotherhood iteration, where the investment in Winry and Ed’s relationship is rewarded at the end when the two get together. Not to mention just how well executed the last scene is in how the two take the whole thing. Ed stumbles around for two minutes not just because he’s an anime protagonist but because he is genuinely nervous about how the one person he’s ever had romantic feelings for might respond, and Winry is, at least one some level, genuinely surprised at Ed asking her to marry him because of how much she does not want to recognize her own feelings.

This is not to say Winry is the most interesting female character ever written, but she is a pretty good one.

A Harem, You Say?

Welcome, weebs and authors alike, to The Aniwriter

Sam from A Nerdy Perspective decided to tag me in the Build a Harem Tag, in which I do exactly that.

Build a Harem

The Rules:

1. Link back to the original post on Anime Q and A so they can check out everyone’s picks!

2. Use the ‘Build A Harem’ logo somewhere in the post.

3. Make sure to mention the person who nominated you too!

4. Pick 5 Anime Characters (any show & any gender) that would be in your ideal harem if you were the main character of a harem anime, explain a little bit as to why they are your picks (if you want).

5. Make sure each character you pick falls into some of the following harem character types: Childhood friend, tom boy/girl, genki girl/boy, loli/shota, trap, tsundere, yandere, kuudere, dandere, etc. (If there’s a character you’ve picked that doesn’t specifically fall into one of these types or falls into multiple types that’s fine too!)

6. Nominate 5 people to participate in this tag!

Now, I don’t really have a lot of characters that I like that fall into a specific archetypical trope, per say, so this is mostly just a list of my favorite female characters in no particular order.

Saber from the Fate/ Series

Saber

I’ve really liked Saber as a character ever since I first watched the original Fate/Stay Night series back in 2014. The show was vastly different from anything I had watched up until that point, and at the center of it was Saber. She was always calm, cool and collected, and was always there to support Shiro when he needed it. Plus, she looks super cool when she fights with Excalibur.

Tsuyu from My Hero Academia

Tsuyu MHA

Tsuyu certainly is not the most prevalent character in my hero academia, but she definitely has her moments. One of her best scenes is where she works with Deku and Mineta at the end of season one and ends up rescuing the two of them with her tongue. She is also pretty funny when it comes to the more comic relief elements of My Hero Academia.

Winry from FMA Brotherhood

Winry

I recently started rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist and I found myself waiting for when Winry would come into the show. Winry is a character who, despite having already watched the show three times, I always find myself rooting for. She is just that wonderful. Plus Ed really does deserve to get smacked sometimes.

Holo from Spice and Wolf

Spice and Wolf

Spice and Wolf is not only one of my favorite series, but Holo is also one of my favorite female characters. Of course, she is the focal point of the series, but she is still the most interesting thing about it. Her conversations with Lawrence are always engaging and make me think about things that I otherwise would not have. Also, her sarcasm is always on point.

Kona from Robotics;Notes

FraukojiroI am not sure what to say about this character other than that she is hilarious. Kona is another comic relief character for sure, but she always is able to lighten the mood in just the right way and at exactly the right time. Plus, let’s face it, who can’t relate to wanting to just sit in your room all day.

Now for the tags. Apologies to however has already been tagged.
